(Re)Finishing the Floors: Part 1

Before we even closed on the house, we knew there were 4 big projects we wanted to tackle:
  1. Update the cabinets
  2. Get new appliances
  3. Refinish the hardwood floors
  4. Update the downstairs bathroom
The cabinets are complete (yay!) The appliances were ordered the weekend before we closed on the house (we were optimistic). And then it was time to tackle the floors.

We heard from everyone we talked to that the Lee Brothers were the best for refinishing hardwood in the area. We had dreams of DIY-ing them, but decided that we'd rather spend the extra money and have them done right by a professional.

We booked the Lee Brothers and thought we had about 3 weeks to get the house ready for refinishing. We were wrong. Mr. Lee (we're still unsure of his first name)
*Side note: he calls Bill "Mr. Bill," I guess that makes me Mrs. Bill... or Shana Bill. hmm..

Off topic! Anyway, because of the snow, Mr. Lee's other jobs were behind schedule. He called Monday to see if we'd like to start Tuesday. Needless to say, Monday night was a busy one!

Luckily I had the proper attire:

I discovered my favorite job- pulling off molding:

Bill had one last sandwich toasted in our magical time machine oven/microwave:

And then it was time to get the old guy outta here! We didn't want to have to carry more than was necessary over the new floors..

Big Bill was not happy with Bill's choice of moving equipment. Apparently that oven is awfully heavy. I heard the phrase "they just don't make them like this anymore" more than a few times. Big Bill swears it was lined with bricks... which is probably why it made such delicious pizza!

The dishwasher was also removed:

And the old heaters were raised off the floor.

It was so nice of Bill's dad to take his vacation the week before the floors were done! Even nicer of him to cancel their trip to Florida to help us out... oh wait- or was it the snow storm that did that? can't remember...

And with that, we were ready for Mr. Lee to get started!
