(Re)Finishing the Floors: Part 4

So the floors are done! (actually they've been done for over a week, but for dramatic effect let's pretend this is a new development) Bill actually managed to stay out of the house for an entire day (Thursday) and then we went to see them on Friday afternoon. Mr. Lee told us we could wander through in our socks only. This is what we found:

They looked great, our only concern was that the finish was very rough to the touch. Mr. Lee assured Bill that the buffing process between coats and the second coat would take care of that.

Mr. Lee also said he would come back the next day, Saturday, to put the final coat of polyurethane on them. We went out town that night and woke up to a pretty decent sized snowstorm and figured Mr. Lee wouldn't be finishing the floors Saturday. So we took a little side trip to Ikea on our way home, where we picked up a few minor things and one Gigantic thing...

A shag-ish area rug for the living room! We couldn't get over how soft they were... so much so that we felt it necessary to take pictures with the floor model (we didn't get this color):

Anyway, on our way back onto the island, we drove past the house to check for any signs of Mr. Lee. Because it had been snowing, the lack of tire marks in the driveway told us that he had not come to the house. So we got home and spent a relaxing weekend away from the new house, only to find out on Monday that Mr. Lee HAD been at the house very early Saturday morning and finished the floors! Even better yet, we were already allowed to walk on them in socks!

And without further ado... may we present our finished floors:

They are exactly what we had been picturing all along! We especially love how much the dark stain brought out the natural wood grain.

And with that we had another big project crossed off the list...
